About us

We are a Cape Based Firm of Chartered Accountants with a history in the business of over 36 years. Raymond Klitzner CFA (S.A.), being one of the Firm’s founding Associates, together with Stuart Mackay-Davidson have diverse, loyal and strong relationship driven Practices. Stuart Mackay-Davidson B.Com (Hons) I.S., CA (S.A.) as Partner, started as an Articled Clerk in the Firm in January 1991 and qualified as a CA (S.A.) in 1993. Stuart, having been educated at Wet Pups (WPPS) from 1977 to 1980 and Bishops from 1981 until 1985, got a B.Com (Hons) degree in Information Systems and a PGDA from the University of Cape Town in 1991. Stuart also heads up Bannister Group, which is a great ally for MKD.
Our Offices are situated in our own building at Concertino House, 106 Kloof Street, Cape Town.

Services

We offer accounting, auditing, taxation and business advisory services. Our clients come in all shapes and sizes from varying industries that often require specific tailor made business solutions. We pride ourselves in getting to know our clients and their businesses and maintaining long relationship driven associations with them. We tailor make our solutions for clients, satisfying their specific needs.

We provide the same diligent and personal service to everyone we are engaged by. We are a small, to mid tier Practice of approximately 30 staff, that pride ourselves on our ability to respond to client needs quickly and decisively. We tend to concentrate on entrepreneurial owner managed businesses, where our role is to provide continuous backup, support and advice to the management team, entrepreneur and their specific requirements across our service offering. We concentrate on the development of our clients and their businesses, constantly seeking new ways of working , of expanding our range of services and assisting with threats and opportunities on their behalf. This ethos applies irrespective of the client size, status or industry they operate in.

Audit

We understand that you need an audit to meet your legal requirements, but we perform this, via Internationally acceptable Audit Standards at cost effective rates. Through the rigorous scrutiny of an audit of your business, this indeed allows you the opportunity to learn more about your business and it is this opportunity we concentrate on. Continually providing our client with live, on the job, client centric value added advice. An audit should be far more than about price, getting the legal requirements attended to, but in fact about getting ethically independent advice and protecting client interests in an ever increasingly regulated environment.

Our Audit team is headed by Tania Reid CA (S.A.), Tania qualified as a CA (S.A.), having completed her articles at our Firm in March 2010 and has been employed by MKD Chartered Accountants for the last 15 years. She is capably backed up by strong in house trained audit managers and professionally competent audit staff. Naturally we are regulated by the IRBA (International Regulatory Board for Auditors) under the guidelines of the APA (Auditing Professional Act) and have passed our last regular IRBA Practice Review with a completely clean bill of health. We are also registered with SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) as a Training Office with both Stuart Mackay-Davidson and Tania Reid duly registered as Assessors, with a view to training up Articled Clerks with strong, on the job experience, but at all times monitoring clerks to ensure that they meet the SAICA stringent Academic Progress Rules.

Our policy is to keep consistency in your audit team, so that they develop a good understanding of your business. This is done with a view to assisting in uncovering irregularities caused by human error, weaknesses in internal controls, the possibility of fraud, poor and inappropriate reporting and inefficient systems. Stuart Mackay-Davidson, as your audit partner, has over 25 years experience in Auditing but also importantly brings to the table extensive wide ranging entrepreneurial business skills. As an entrepreneurial CA and business owner, Stuart has a number of diverse business interests which only but add value to the advice we are able to provide you as the business owner.

Accounting Services

Often an area totally ignored by the larger Firms, we concentrate on providing our clients value added advice and relationship driven services in this critical area of a client’s business. Apart from ensuring that clients keep abreast of the financial state of their business, we ensure that they remain compliant with the latest accounting standards and the continually changing onerous tax regulations.

Areas covered here include:

–     Record keeping for small/medium businesses, owner managed companies, close corporations, trusts, sole proprietors, partnerships;

–     Independent Reviews – as required by the new Company’s Act, 2008;

–     Compilations,

–     Preparation of annual and or monthly accounting records from source documents through to trial balance and management accounts;

–     Regular maintenance of financial records, bank reconciliations, management accounts, assisting clients with their VAT, PAYE and other statutory requirements,

–     Setting up systems and client specific accounting software;

–     Assistance with tax returns,

–    Preparation of budgets and cash flow forecasts and monitoring actual results against these,

–    Payroll assistance and maintenance,

–     Maintaining accurate and reliable accounting in a cost effective environment

Our competent personnel in this department are headed up by Courtenay Rudimuldu B.Compt. (Hons) degree.  He joined our Firm in 2003 and currently manages our Firm’s accounting department, having worked in the department.

We are passionate in ensuring that all client accounting requirements are handled professionally, timeously and competently. We are flexible in our accounting solutions and are often called in to clean up client accounting records on a short to medium terms basis on a fixed monthly charge basis.

We also provide continual ad hoc advice to our clients depending on their business and specific requirements. We set up client accounting software, their internal control environment and also provide training and ongoing support to client staff.

Taxation Services

Capably headed up by ex SARS employee Tanya Smit. Tanya has been employed by our Firm for the past 18 years and has been managing the Tax Department since 2005.

Our areas of competency covered here include:

Corporate Tax – planning, ongoing advice and compliance hereto,

Private Individuals – being Registered Tax Practitioners’ we monitor compliance to the ever more regulated tax requirements of SARS. We use Greatsoft software to maintain our clients ongoing tax records and load all clients on our Firm’s Tax Practitioner’s profile on the SARS website;

Indirect Taxes;

International Tax – both compliance and in depth international tax structuring advice and services;

Public Benefit Organizations – registrations with SARS under Section 31 of the Act, read with Section 18A and continued tax maintenance in this regards,

Trusts and Estates – the use of trusts in Estate Planning in a continually changing legal minefield, the Executorship of Estates,

Employment Taxes – advice on salary structures, tax directives etc.

Tax Investigations and Queries – we deal directly with SARS regarding all disputes and queries arising from submissions made to them.

MKD Corporate Secretarial Services

Suitably headed up by the very capable Nadia Berkelmann who has been in the industry for the past 23 years having gained experience at reputable firms. We use the latest software to maintain our client’s requirements in this regard, having relationships going back many years with CIPC agents in Pretoria so as to ensure effective and streamlined management and maintenance of Company records.
